EB1: Germanic Spearmen are a unit of experienced and “capable” spearmen, steeled by years of constant warfare. They are well known for throwing their spears before charging in to hand-to-hand combat.

EB2: The Dugunthiz (the "Trusted" or "Capable" ones) is a unit of proud and experienced, "proven" warriors steeled by years of constant warfare.

Description[]

Ðuġunðiz (DhU-ghun-dhiz, the “Trusted” or “Capable” Ones)

The Dugundiz is a unit of proud and experienced, “proven” warriors steeled by years of constant warfare and veterans of numerous conflicts, mostly tribal, but some of a larger scale. These men are hardened for battle and unlikely to flee from conflict, and are trained through long experience to work in close or open formation.

Historically, the Jugundiz (Youth) formed the front line of battle in order to act as a screen, taking losses to increase the odds of survival for more valuable "proven" warriors (Dugundiz) who stood just behind. The Proven formed the bulk of any Germanic force and were very versatile warriors. They were renowned for their courage in melee combat and have earned their place through consummate skill with their well accustomed to weapon, the spear. Their weapon is a mark of freedom and honor, has a narrow and short head, so sharp and easy to wield that the same weapon served, depending on the circumstances, for both close quarter and long range combat.

Usage[]

The Dugundiz are highly capable shock infantry, able to force a rout with their powerful charge and with numerous units of them, able to force a mass rout towards barbarian armies. Against civilized armies such as the Romani, they are very capable of holding the line in when "Guard Mode" and with their shieldwall is very difficult to break in the front while other units like Swordsmen or clubmen surround and flank the enemy. Any cavalry who are not heavily armored attempting to battle the Dugundiz will die even faster.

Only their lack of armor is a problem and like every barbarian unit, missile attacks like javelins and arrows that will pass through the Dugundiz's shield can cause heavy casualties. Also, swordsmen and other high lethality infantry will be bane of the Dugundiz if they are ever attacked in the flanks or rear.
