Chauci Spearmen are a unit of warriors able to perform better than other spearmen defensively, because of their unique experiences defending their native land.

Description

Ðruxtiz χoβugiskā (DhRUKh-tiz KhO-vu-gi-skā, “Chauci Warband”)

The Druxtiz Xobugiskā are local Chauci warriors organized into a warband. Though difficult to control, they are sincere in their desire for glory and plunder, and fight well to secure both- to this end, they perform better defensively than their neighbors.

Historically, the Xobugōzez (Chauci), whose name can mean "Hawks" in their own language, were a populous tribe inhabiting the extreme northwestern shore of Germania. Their warriors often used representations of birds on their clothing and shields. They were experienced sailors and just as often experienced pirates, but were always able to defend their lands with strength and valor.

Usage

A regional variant of the Dugundiz (Germanic Spearmen), these spearmen are more inclined in a defense role, with better shields and a defensive formation almost comparable to a Hoplitai (Greek Classical Hoplites) when in Guard Mode. They are no less weaker than other Germanic units however, quite capable of unleashing a devastating charge.

One should place them in the center of the battle-line so that they can take full advantage of their defensive skills while other units flank or surround the enemy. Like other barbarian units, they have low armor and they are weak against missile attacks.
